BLIND MAN

HAD FRIGHT

Al Byce, a blind man who is a familiar character about the streets of Muncie where he is usually seen following a garbage wagon, had a narrow escape from serious injury Tuesday morning at the corner of Main and Walnut streets, when a relative who was leading him across the street believed that he would be run down by an approaching automobile driven by Ralph Hemingray and deserted the sightless man, leaving him alone in the streets. Hemingray, who was driving his machine at a moderate rate of speed, was coming from the east on Main street and was about to make the turn into South Walnut street. Byce was just in the act of crossing the street led by the relative, when Hemingray tooted his automobile horn. Byce was deserted and left standing alone. Due to the slippery condition of the streets Hemingray attempted to stop his machine but it skidded on the pavement in such a manner as to strike the blind man, Byce was not knocked to the ground, but instead he clung to the side of the automobile, ell was assisted to his feet badly frightened. Mr. Hemingray was m no way held responsible for the slight accident.
