"A. G." IS WANTED BY POLICE

Man Whose Initials Were Monogrammed

on Costly Poker Chips and Gambling

Outfit is Being Sought

Covington detectives, with Ignatz Steidle, safety commissioner, uncovered evidence in the old Hemingray glass factory, Second-st and Madison-av, Covington, which had been fitted up as a modern Monte Carlo, which probably will lead to the indictment of a well-known Newport gambler.

Police authorities say they found a collar and tie bearing the full name of this man. Poker chips and other gambling paraphernalia bore initials of this man. He is believed by police to be the same man who entered the gambling den at 207 W. Fourth-st, Newport, and, after covering a crowd of gamblers, circled around a table with a pistol, took $1000 and fled.

City commissioners have instructed Senator A. E. Stricklett. city solicitor, to ascertain names of officers of the Andrews Specialty Co., which is alleged by officers of the Central Trust Co. of Cincinnati to have a lease on the old Hemingray property. Officers of the Central Trust Co. say they can identify the signer of the lease and will do so.

It was said Wednesday the gambling outfit confiscated by Covington police is one of the finest found in this vicinity. It is said to be valued at between $4000 and $5000. Crap tables, roulette wheels, faro banks and hazard table are of the finest inlaid mahogany. All are now and it is said they were shipped to Covington from Chicago less than a week ago.

Poker chips and other paraphernalia bear the initials "A. G.," are of the finest quality. Police made every effort to locate the alleged owner of the property, but it is said he is conspicuous by his absence about his usual haunts in Newport.

The second floor of the old Hemingray property is of sufficient size to accommodate at least 1000 men.

An office containing elaborate furniture had been fitted up in one corner of the bid room where gamblers would have been able to obtain change and where game keepers would have made accounting after the day’s business.

Police say their investigation has just started and will be pushed with all vigor in an effort to get to the bottom of the affair,

It was intimated Wednesday wealthy sports from Chicago were behind the proposed game and intended making a "killing" during the Latonia race meeting.
