MUNCIE FACTORIES

ALL IN OPERATION

But Season for Summer

Shutdown Is Here.

SOME WILL BE CLOSED

During July and August, But Others

Will Continue Throughout

the Summer.

Owing to a large number of the boys at the Ball Brothers and the Hemingray factories leaving their work, many of the men have been forced into temporary idleness.

There are several shops off at the Ball Brothers' factories, and a full quota of men has not been at work at the Hemingray plant for several days. A number of men have been given the work done by the boys, however, at the Hemingray plant, and it is believed that it will soon be operating full force and continue until the end of the fire.

Owing to a rush of orders the works of the Ontario Silverplate company will not close this month as has been the custom for years but will continue to operate steadily until September. A number of improvements have been made at the plant and it is proving to be a very important one.

There is still some blasting of the big machinery being taken from the Indiana iron mills, and the installation of the turnbuckle plant is being retarded somewhat. The force of workmen is a large one, however, and the work of placing the new plant in order will be started as soon as possible. Some of the machinery for the new plant has arrived and within a short time the skilled workmen will be coming into Muncie, since it is stated upon good authority that the plant will operate, steadily.

It is reported that the Midland steel works will be closed for the season within two weeks, but there is no manner of verifying the rumor. The local managers receive their instructions from headquarters, and they will not know anything regarding the shut down until the order comes. At present, although it is very warm, the plant is operating full force of workmen.

Within the past six weeks many thousand lawn mowers have been shipped by the American Lawnmower company of Muncie, to other parts of the country and it is expected that the output for next season will be greatly Increased. The Muncie firm has been increasing the capacity of the plant in Congerville for some time. The busy season with the company is practically over, the supply for the present season having been sold to the jobbing and retail trade, but the machines for next season, which will be put on the market within a short time, are already being made. A large number of painters who have been busy for several months, expect to have a vacation of two weeks during July.
