The Brookfield Glass Company

Claims Spur Will Cut Their

Property, Near Old

Bridge, in Half.

Determined to prevent the laying of a spur of the Pennsylvania railroad across their property to connect with the newly-purchased land of the Westinghouse Airbrake Company the Brookfield Glass Company has placed a coterie of twelve armed guards on their property.

The Westinghouse company recently secured land from Asbury Fountain and brother, Bonhamtown, and made application to the Board of Freeholders to run a switch across the county road from the Camden and Amboy division of the Pennsylvania railroad. This permit was granted, and through Attorney C. R. Rose, of a New York law firm, the Brookfield Glass Company subsequently protested to the county board, claiming that this stretch of track would have to be laid across their property. This matter was referred to County Solicitor Burton, who informed the Brookfield company that the matter was beyond the jurisdiction of the county officials and would have to be settled by the companies.

Send Guards, is Report.

Having heard of a threat to lay the railroad spur during the night, the Brookfield Company is said to have sent a dozen guards to the contested spot with orders to prevent any trespass on the glass company’s property.

As yet the only opposition the guards have met with have been mosquitoes, which abound in countless numbers at this spot.
