CRANKS AUTOMOBILE

IN GEAR; IS INJURED

Lawson "Lawsie" Smith, 27, of 1601 South Shipley street, an employe of the Hemingray Glass Company, was badly hurt about 9:30 o’clock last evening, when the Ford sedan belonging to his father, William L. Smith, struck a telephone pole at the intersection of Eighth street, and Macedonia avenue and turned over. He was taken to the Home Hospital by a passing motorist and a policeman before the ambulance arrived. His condition was reported as fair.

Smith cranked the car, which was in gear and it started down Macedonia avenue following the curbing for about a square. He jumped on the side and attempted to reach the steering wheel as the machine crashed. It is thought that he was thrown to the ground, injuring him internally.
