GLASS TUBE-WORKS.

Pendleton to Get a Big Concern —

Other Incorporations.

Articles of association have been filed with the Secretary of State by the Pendleton Glass Tube and Pipe Works, of Pendleton, Ind. The enterprise proposes is novel in its character, and opens up a field in the glass industry hitherto wholly unexplored. Until now human ingenuity has failed to devise any process by which molten glass could be molded as iron is, but R. G. Guptill, of Elgin, Ill., claims to have solved the problem, and his invention is the property of this company.

It is the purpose of the company to make glass pipe primarily for electric light conduits, although it is declared the product will make ideal piping for water, gas, sewer, closet and other purposes for which lead and iron are so generally utilized.

The fact that glass is a non-conductor and is proof against the actions of air, gas, acid or liquids of any kind, and does not rust or corrode, but will be in as perfect a condition at the close of a century as at its beginning, gives to the invention special importance and interest.

The inventor alleges that his process will revolutionize and simplify the laying of underground conduits.

Pendleton has been selected as the site for this new industry, because of the abundance of gas and glass-sand to be had there. The buildings will be erected on a tract of ten acres of this sand-land, which is owned by the company.

At a meeting of the stockholders held Saturday, Auditor of State Henderson was chosen president, W. S. Jewell, the electrician, vice-president, J. T. Fanning secretary, R. G. Guptill general manager, and Leon O. Baily treasurer. In conjunction with the officers mentioned, Secretary of State Claude Matthews, F. R. Coffin, E. M. Eisenbeiss, of this city, and ex-Senator A. R. Shroyer of Logansport, were constituted the board of directors. The capitalization is $50,000, and all the stock for sale has been taken.

Mr. Jewell, who is electrician for the Indianapolis Street Railway Company, declares that the discovery is of great moment and that the enterprise will rapidly develop into one of the greatest importance.

The American Coping and Glass Cresting Company of Anderson, was incorporated to-day, with a capital stock of $25,000. How the uses of glass do multiply.

Articles of incorporation were filed also of the Jones Natural Gas Company, of Hartford City. Capital stock of $5,000.
