MUNCIE MAN DIES IN A PRISON CELL THOMAS DORING, DESPONDENT OVER FRIEND’S ALLEGED COOLNESS TOOK TO DRINK AND DIED FAR FROM HOME. Despondent because of the death of his wife, which occurred about a year ago, and because he thought the friend that he had gone all the way from Muncie to Lockport, N. Y., to see, did not want him as a visitor, Thomas Doring, 61 years old, an insulator presser at Hemingray's factory here, took to drink in Lockport and died in a cell at police headquarters there this morning of alcoholism. He ceased work in the Hemingray factory about two weeks ago and finally went to Lockport to visit Albert MacGregor, arriving at his friend’s home last Thursday, so a special dispatch to the Press from Lockport today says. MacGregor, so the Lockport police say, told Doring to go to a hotel to stay, whereupon Doring, it is said, became highly incensed and started to drink, being finally arrested. "I feel unwell and fear that I am going to die," he told Police Sergeant Rapp, early this morning. He was given a stimulant and seemed to revive but a few minutes later he grew worse and before a physician arrived he had breathed his last. The body was removed to the morgue where it will be kept until relatives are notified. The man had $20 in his clothing when arrested. Doring had no sons or daughters. |
