MUNCIE, IND.
By Walt Claspell.
Just a few lines to let you know that Muncie is still on the map and that No. 23 is still together.
The outlook at Hemingray's is brighter than it has been for years. We have orders galore. Shipping is at its best, and in order to keep up with orders another tank will be started soon. It surely looks good to see the smoke rolling out of more than one of the big brick stacks.
The boys are all anxious to see the other tank started, as it means many new members will be added to Local Union No. 23; also a few promotions of gatherers to presses.
At our meeting on January 2 we elected Mr. Cyrus Herron for our executive. This is the sixth year for Mr. Herron as our executive, and we feel perfectly satisfied that our interests will be well taken care of.
On January 9 Local Union No. 23 held a special meeting and we were glad to have with us Vice President Joseph Gillooly, whom we found to be a very interesting speaker. Mr. Gillooly gave a quick talk on the insulator situation, in which we were deeply interested. He also spoke of the Columbus strike and of the fight the boys of No. 122 are putting up to win. We expect to see a number of Columbus boys in Muncie soon, and they can be sure they will find a hearty welcome in Local Union No. 23.
The sudden change in weather put some of the brothers on the sick list, among them Brother Green and Brother Brown. We hope to see them back to work soon.
