The Hemingray Glass Co. is badly handicapped for want of small help. One tank is shut down, and from the way things look the other one is liable to go down, too. The yard is pretty full, which makes our chance of working until June last pretty slim.
A few of the brothers have drawn their cards and gone elsewhere. Some have taken laboring jobs, which are plentiful here at the present time.
Brother Willie Bird has his corn all in and expects to raise a bumper crop. Brother Brown is thinking of going to his farm and raising more peanuts. Brother Brown raises some peanuts, knock-kneed, double-jointed and every other kind. If any of the brothers want to know how to raise them, just write to C. Brown, care Hemingray Glass Co., and he will tell you all about it.
Brother Joe Elliot will sell drugs and salve while the fire is out.
We expect to see the Carmichael Brothers (there are only seven) leave soon for Southern Michigan on their annual fishing trip.
Brother Elmer Hilton, of Arcadia, was over May 13 to see our ball team play. Come again, Rip.
Our ball team is playing in the Saturday Afternoon League this year, and is sure giving a good account of itself. They all sit up and take notice when they see the Hemingray uniform on the field, and especially when they bat; they certainly are hitting the horsehide. The team is captained by Brother Joe Love, who needs no introduction to the gas belt fans, having played with the famous Elwood Reds, Dunkirk and other fast teams of Eastern Indiana. He is fast as ever in spite of his 35 years. Brother A. H. Barth is manager, and if you brothers don't think we play ball just write Brother Barth, E. 5th street. Perhaps he can arrange for a game with locals in the gas belt that have ball teams.
