MUNCIE, IND.

By Walt Claspell.

After about six weeks of misery and suspense endured by the brothers the Hemingray Glass Company shut down its factory on July 24, and then came the ball game. It was s-o-m-e game, believe me. The gatherers played the pressers to see who should pay for the lunch they were going to eat with beer the saloon men gave them, about four barrels. The line-up:

Pressers: B. Smith, c.; A. Hilton, p.; J. Lang, 1b.; J. Love, ss.; E. Jones, 2b.; E. Joris, 3b.; A. Barth, lf.; William Bird, cf.; J. Arnold, rf.; J. Elliot, sub.

Gatherers: C. Jetmore, c.; M. Carmicheal, p.; C. Knecht, ss.; J. Windom, 1b.; H. Hickman, 2b.; W. Claspell, 3b.; William Casey, lf.; Dall Miller, cf.; G. Jetmorer, rf.; L. Green, sub.; L. Mapes, sub.

The score was 8 and 7 in favor of the pressers. Brother William Bird, who is about 56 or 57, was the star of the game, batting 1,000 and fielding .800. Out of four times up he got four two-baggers. Ty Cobb has nothing on him. Brother Cy Herron was water boy. About the seventh inning he went for water and sat down in the shade to rest and never got back until the game was over. No one wanted water then, with a barrel of suds ready to tap. The brothers told me they had a glorious time. I wasn't there myself. I'm on the wagon. We look for the fire to start about September 4. We also expect to work two shifts instead of three.
