GLASS PLANT IS NEAR AVERAGE Furnaces Are Started by the Hemingray Company.
Reports from several Muncie factories, show that the employment situation in Muncie, while at its customary low standard of the year, is gradually being improved. The Hemingray Glass Company, which employs, on a yearly average 375 men, said Tuesday that it expects to be at its normal employment in two weeks. Hemingray’s went to a low production point on November 16 and many men were laid off at that time. However the plant has had enough work on hand to remain in operation and Monday another furnace began work. The latter part of the week will see still another one started. Officers of the company told The Press, Tuesday, that a third furnace will be started by next week and that within two weeks the normal employment of 375 men will be reached. They said the company at no time this fall or winter has experienced an abnormal recession of operations. Work at the glass plant has been on an average with other years. |
