Glass Brick to be Displayed at Press Home Show Many Uses of Muncie-Made Product to be Shown.
That the American home is in a structural evolution given its great-impetus during the last year will be shown in a special display at the Muncie Evening Press Modern Homes Show, which will be held next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Field House. Glass brick, virtually unknown when some 21,000 persons visited the last Modern Homes Show a year ago, will be displayed in all its various uses at the show next week. Introduced by the Owens-Illinois plant here only last June, glass brick has created a sensation in the building industry. It is now in virtually all types of construction and is gaining popularity for use in the modern home. Adopted for Home. At the Homes Show you may see it as it has been adapted to the home. A block of glass will be laid and illuminated to show its value for lighting purposes. Several different kinds of glass brick will be used. In addition, photographs of some of the 300 installations already made will be shown. The Owens-Illinois Company started making glass brick at Columbus, Ohio, four years ago and was carried through its experimental stage there. In Muncie, the product was redesigned and introduced last spring. Since that time it has found a variety of different uses. It has been used in a decorative way for store fronts. It is used in partitions in office buildings, hospitals, schools, industrial buildings. In the modern home it is being used in the place of some windows, such as those along stairways and stair halls. It is used for the entire wall in some rooms, in conjunction with regular windows. It is used for interior partitions. 35 Merchants Co-operate. Among its most popular uses in the modern home are shower baths and basement lighting. Laid in place of the usual brick and window combination around the foundation, it increases basement light. And there already is a glass-block bar in Muncie. Among other special features of the Modern Homes Show will be the presentation of "All in a Wife-time," a marionette comedy taken from the stage play, "Freedom of the Shes." Eighteen characters manipulated by a nationally known crew of operators are employed in the comedy. The same characters were seen at the Chicago World’s Fair, and more recently in movies produced at Hollywood. Some 35 merchants are co-operating in this year’s Modern Homes Show, each having a separate booth on the Field House floor. On each of the three days of the show the doors will be open from 2 p. m. til 10:30. |
