CONTRACT AWARDED
FOR BOTTLING PLANT
Erecting Glass Brick Building
at Cost of $35,000.
Contract for the $35,000 plant to be erected by the Muncie Coca Cola Bottling Works was let yesterday to A. J. Glaser, local building contractor.
Building operations will begin at once, with the new factory to be completed in eight weeks. The new building is to be erected at the present factory sight at the intersection of High and Willard streets.
Installing New Machinery
Glass building blocks, the creation of the Owens-Illinois Glass Company, Muncie division, will dominate building materials to be used in the new structure. Buff brick will be used as an auxiliary material to the glass blocks, according to Cleno Funk, general manager.
Due to an intricate system of installation of new machinery in the new structure, the manufacturing schedule of the plant will not be interrupted. Work is to continue in the old building until new machinery is installed in a section of the new building. Bottling operations will then be shifted to the new building. With the exception of the new north section, the old building will be wrecked to make way for the new structure.
A unique lighting system, developed by Owens-Illinois engineers especially for use in factories constructed of the glass blocks, will be put into operation at the new factory. The new machinery will be operated exclusively by gas and will be automatic.
