MCABEE SCHOONER TO

DETROIT SCOUTS

Gift Is Announced By Retired

Manufacturer.

A 52-foot schooner was given Saturday by Col. Philip W. McAbee to the Detroit Boy Scout Council for use by its Sea Scout Patrols. Arrangements for the gift were made through Robert P. Bauer, Delaware County Boy Scout executive.

Mr. McAbee said the boat would have been offered to the Delaware County Boy Scout Council, if it could have been used by the organization. Mr. Bauer communicated by telephone with Amos Shields, Detroit scout executive, and the offer was accepted, provided funds can be raised to meet the necessary expenses. Mr. Bauer asked that Delaware County Sea Scouts be allowed to use the boat on certain occasions.

The boat has been owned by Mr. McAbee for several years, but for a year has been dismantled and kept in Detroit. Mr. McAbee said he did not intend to use the schooner again and wished to give it to an organization that would find it useful.

Mr. McAbee said the boat is completely equipped, has a full set of sails, and is in good condition. It is valued at $7,500. The schooner known as Malabar VI, was built by a New England shipbuilder famed for this type of craft.
