MUNCIE, IND.

By J. W. Claspell.

Conditions at the Hemingray Glass Co. are getting worse for lack of gatherers. Many of the shops are idle and it would surprise no one if the manager would shut down a tank.

Four gatherers and one presser joined the army in one week. They were Clarence Hunt, Luke Wilmoth and Oscar Morrison. All enlisted in the coast artillery. This makes a total of six members of Local Union No. 23 now in the service and more are expecting to go soon.

Out of eight enlistments on Monday, March 11, six were from the Hemingray Co. and three of them were glassworkers. Our night boss, Newton Moppin. joined the coast artillery. His place is being filled by Guy Ellinwood.

Brother Clifford Brown has quit and gone to his farm in southern Indiana.

Brother Lonnie Green has drawn his card and gone elsewhere. Brother Green is in the fifth class of the draft.

Brother Ed Jones was sent to Martinsville by Local Union No. 23 to be cured of rheumatism.

Brother Fred Giltner is suffering from organic heart trouble and rheumatism; was given up by two doctors but is now recovering.

Brother Ray Carmicheal has quit. He passed examination and is in class one.

The warm weather has brought with it the thought of baseball and if there is a Saturday Afternoon League Hemingrays will be represented, at least we will try to get into it.

When asked why he called his horse Heavyweight, Brother Willie Bird said: "Huh! By golly, if you had to lift him up every morning to put the harness on him you'd call him Heavyweight too."
