MUNCIE, IND.

By J. W. Claspell.

There is some doubt as to when the fire will go out at the Hemingray Glass Co., owing to the fact that they have such large orders. Repairs must be made and the brothers expect to get four weeks at least. The factory is undergoing a great change. The new producers and building will probably be completed by October 1st. At least that's what the management desires. They expect to have no natural gas after that date.

The company wants to operate three tanks, but in my estimation they will be fortunate if they operate one. Many of the brothers are leaving for different causes.

Brother Ed Knecht has quit. I can't say why.

The writer quit on account of his health.

Brother John Harvey took a position as fireman on the railroad.

Brothers Bernard Cummings and Martin Erlenbaugh joined the navy.

Charles Casey was drafted into the working branch of the army and will leave for Washington to cut timber for Uncle Sam.

There are more of the brothers in the draft age now, and if it is raised to 45 they will all be in except those of great age, such as J. Elliot, D. Cummings, J. Arnold, Ed Hice, D. Bird and George Brass. Brother Brass is a Spanish-American vet and tried to enlist for this war but was turned down for being too old.

Saturday, June 15, at noon, a service flag was dedicated on which were 22 blue and one gold stars. The gold star was for our former night foreman, Newt Moppin. Ten stars were for brothers of Local Union No. 23. Brother Cy Herron was master of ceremonies and sure made a hit with the people. He gave a short talk before the Rev. Reno Laconia, who was the speaker, made his address, which was an exceedingly good one. We also had the great pleasure of hearing Mrs. Alfred Kilgore sing again. Mrs. Kilgore sang at our flag-raising and was presented with a beautiful lavalier by the employes. Mrs. Kilgore is the best soprano singer in Delaware county and the best in the state.
