New York firm buys plant in Derry

DERRY -- Industrial Ceramics Inc., of Lima, N. Y., has purchased Westinghouse Electric Corp.'s porcelain insulator plant, the company announced this week.

ICI, a newly formed firm headed by New York attorney Howard S. Jacobs, has been negotiating to buy the Derry plant since last summer. Originally, the sale was to have been completed by July but was stalled on several occasions by sub-par activity in the insulator market.

Westinghouse was willing to sell the Derry plant, after the company determined it no longer fit into the company's long-range strategy.

Other ICI officers include: Donald G. Powell, of Rochester, president; Robert E. Gottheld, plant manager; and Daniel J. Lennart, vice president human resources.

Gottheld was formerly manufacturing operations manager at Derry for Westinghouse, while Lennart was human resources manager.
