MUNCIE, IND.

By Harvey Hickman.

Now that the time has rolled around again for me to let the trade know how things are at the Hemingray Glass Co. and what the members of Local Union No. 23 are doing and going to do, will say that the long-expected shut-down finally came at last to one tank, which is tank No. 4. It shut down on May 29, leaving No. 1 tank still in operation with four shops running, two hand shops and two automatic shops. From the way things look, I think No. 1 tank will finish-up the month as they have quite a bit of work to do before they can shut it down.

Bro. Murray Clevenger, mould maker, who formerly was a member of Local Union No. 112 at Winchester, Ind., is now working at the Cramer mould shop, this city, and has become a member of Local Union No. 23.

Brother Charlie Schies, who learned the mould making trade at his father's factory in Anderson, Ind., and has for the last few months worked at the Hemingray Glass Co., has become a member of the A. F. G. W. U. and is now a member of Local Union No. 23, this city.

Bros. Cyrus Herron, Russel and Chester Carmichael and a few other friends will spend their summer vacation fishing up at Houghton Lake in the wild country in the northern part of Michigan.

Bro. Fred Giltner has gone to Chicago, Ill., and others have gone to some wet territory where they can get something better than a little bit of rain water with a cake of yeast in it.

There is going to be quite a bit of improvement at the Hemingray Glass Co. this summer, as they are going to tear down the old flint house building where No. 1 tank is and put up a new building of structural iron and asbestos, also a new lehr, repair the tanks and a new batch room. There has also been a change in the office in the last few days. Mr. Hemingray, the big chief of the firm, has retired and placed his son-in-law, Phillip Maccabee [sic] McAbee at the head of the firm. Mr. Maccabee [sic] McAbee was in the U. S. A., and saw several months' training and fighting in France, just returning a few weeks ago.
