The first of the chain of bridge parties to be given to benefit the Red Cross took place Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ray Johnson in East Washington street, when Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Clarence Retherford entertained. Since so many Muncie boys have enlisted and a part of these and many other American boys will go to France, the Red Cross will go with them and will mean vastly more to Muncie people than ever before. The plan of these parties is that the first eight couples entertained, will each entertain eight couples and a person is to play but once, so that hundreds of Muncie women will be called upon to play. Mrs. Ralph Hemingray and Miss Emily Howe won prizes at yesterday’s party, and those present were Mrs. W. H. Stewart, Miss Marjorie Stewart, Mrs. M. L. Altshul, Mrs. Herman Marx, Mrs. Norman Wernet, Mrs. Harry Hartman, Mrs. Kenneth Wilson, Miss Carrie Smith, Mrs. Jerome Galliher, Mrs. Alfred Kilgore, Mrs. Hemingray, Miss Howe, Mrs. Holly Harvey, Mrs. Worth Baldwin, Mrs. William McDonald and Mrs. Kenneth Spurgeon.
