MUNCIE, IND.

By J. W. Claspell.

At this writing the Hemingray Glass Co. is idle, having shut down on account of fuel. However, they expect to be operating two tanks by January 1. A few of the brothers are working at odd jobs around the plant, but the most of them are loafing.

Some of the brothers who had been away from the trade for some time were working when the place shut down. Among them were: John Harvey, Grover Carmichael, Pete Concannon, Dick Gibson, Andy Gibson and Milt Hale. There were also four new brothers from Old Bridge, N. J.

The brothers throughout the trade who were glad or interested to learn of Bro. Cy Herron being advanced to night foreman at the Hemingray plant will be more so to learn that that worthy has advanced again, and that to the day foremanship job. Keep on going, Cy, you'll own the plant yet.

Bros. Chas. McCarthy and Lawrence Carmichael have been advanced to night foremen.

The Hemingray Co. were very fortunate in securing Herron, Carmichael and McCarthy as foremen. The characters of these brothers are above reproach. Bro. Carmichael was an active member of Local Union No. 23 for 10 or 12 years. He served as conferee for a number of years, held almost every office in the local at different conventions, served as factory committee several years, and was president of the local when he took his present position.

Bro. McCarthy — better known to the brothers of Local Union No. 23 as "Petey Dink." on account of his very close resemblance to that hero of the Muncie Evening Press' comic section — is a man who squares four ways with the world: every inch a man (60 inches high), and considered the best insulator man in that branch of the trade. A real glassworker, a real man and a real, for-sure brother. We all take off our hats to Bro. Charley.
