LIFE OF GROVER
CLEVELAND SAVED
Grover Cleveland had a narrow escape from suffering an ignominious death last week in Covington. He was destined to die Saturday, but a kind friend came to the rescue and Grover is tickled almost to death.
He is exceedingly grateful that his life was spared; he is also pleased because there is a new spangle on his neck, which, in short, saved Grover’s life.
Grover Cleveland in Covington is nothing less than a dog. He is the property of Dan Hemingray, and when Dan heard that Grover had been a victim of the dog catcher’s net and was waiting death in the pound, he immediately paid [dollar:$3] to save his animal friend.
Hemingray himself applied for the license tag at City Clerk Craig’s office.
"Give a description of your dog,” said the clerk.
He had Hemingray going. Grover Cleveland is just a dog — a common curbstone setter, Hemingray says. That was the kind of an entry made on the books, and Grover was ordered released from the pound.
