Durholt Named to Hemingray Post; Holmes to Retire Larry E. Durholt, associated with Owens-Illinois since 1929, has been named manager of Hemingray Insulator sales, according to an announcement by John P. Kearney, sales manager of the Industrial and Electronics Division of American Structural Products Company. His appointment is effective at once, and he succeeds Minot Holmes, 912 West North street, who will retire shortly, after having served Hemingray for forty-seven years. When Larry joined Owens-Illinois, of which American Structural Products is a subsidiary, he served in the Libbey Division working in various capacities until 1947, when he was transferred to ASPC. Although Hemingray insulators are manufactured at the Muncie plant, he will make his headquarters in Toledo. Minot started in the Muncie plant in 1904, in the machine shop. During his long association with Hemingray and later Owens-Illinois, he designed the basic elements of the insulator machine and contributed to the plant’s production mechanization. He also took part in early glass block experiments and advanced several ideas which helped to create the first satisfactory hermetically-sealed block to be marketed in the United States. Many of his ideas are still in use today. |
