MUNCIE, IND.

By Harvey Hickman.

I will try and inform you of what is going on in Muncie with Local 23. The first thing I have in mind is what happened today. Number 2 factory at the Hemingray Glass Co. burned to the ground October 18. As for the cause of the fire I am not in a position to state the full particulars at this time, but have learned that they were regulating a sand damper and the flames leaped from it, igniting other gas which had been escaping from some nearby pipe in the factory. The tank in No. 2 factory was built up this summer and started to work October 4 with nine shops, so I suppose that several of the men will be thrown out of work for a while.

The Industrial Baseball League, in which the Hemingray Glass Co. was represented with one of the best teams, closed on October 2, with the Glasscock team in the lead and Hemingray second place. Hemingrays won 17 and lost 3, while Glasscocks won 18 and lost 2 but as the public was not satisfied and contended that the Hemingray team was the best, so a post season series of three games were arranged to determine who was champion. The first game was played at League park Saturday afternoon. October 9, in which the Hemingray team won 11 to 5. The second game went to the Insulator workers October 17 by a 2 to 1 score, proving that they are the real champions of the Saturday Afternoon League. Norman Holsinger pitched both games, allowing 9 hits in the two games, while the team behind him played air-tight ball, making two errors in the two games. Brother Joe Love got a home run in the first game with two men on bases, making him Babe Ruth the second.

Brother George Taylor has been on the sick list for the past two months.

The writer has been on the sick list for the last two weeks, being severely poisoned on ivy and pawpaws, which went into erysipelas. If anyone wishes to write to me you don't need to put my address on the envelope, just put a little poison on it and I will be sure to get it.

Brother John Lang is also on the sick list with rheumatism.
