Glass Factory is Ready

Work was started this week in the quartz quarry of the Anacortes Glass Co. The quarry is located at Deer Harbor, Orcas island, and the material was formerly used in the manufacture of glass in Seattle. The factory is practtically [sic] practically ready for operation and can be placed in operation within a week. Under the rules of their union the glass blowers are not permitted to work during the months of July and August, and no glass factories are operated in those months with union men. The Anacortes plant is now receiving orders and will begin operation September 1. It will turn out at least ten tons of manufactured glass per day, bottles, insulators, and jars, and will employ about 50 men and boys. Fire will be started August 15, as it takes 15 days to heat the furnace.
