ANACORTES GLASS FACTORY

RUNS AFTER LONG SHUTDOWN

SOUTH SIDE INDUSTRY STARTS UP ONE FURNACE THIS WEEK AND

GIVES EMPLOYMENT TO FORCE OF 35 MEN AND HAS CONTRACTS

TO INSURE RUN FOR REST OF THE SEASON.

Giving employment to a crew of about thirty-five men, most of them skilled labor, the Anacortes glass factory started up its plant at Twenty-sixth and S avenue last Monday morning with enough orders ahead to insure a steady run for the rest of the season.

The plant had been closed down since last November and in the meantime the smaller of the two furnaces had been enlarged and some new machinery installed. The capacity of the smaller furnace was doubled so that six glass blowers instead of three are employed. The plant started up on the smaller furnace and whether or not the larger furnace will be put in operation depends upon the amount of future orders. The factory is now engaged in the manufacture of prescription bottles and milk bottles.

The resuming of operations by this plant is the cause of much rejoice on the south side and is a source of much satisfaction to the entire city. As most of the present force of thirty-five men are skilled laborers, the factory will add a considerable amount to the city's payroll.
