GLASS FACTORY GETS NEW MACHINES GLASS PLANT INSTALLS BOTTLE MAKING MACHINES ANACORTES FACTORY OBTAINS BIG ORDER FROM SEATTLE CONCERN AND ADDS EQUIPMENT TO DOUBLE ITS CAPACITY, GIVING EMPLOYMENT TO CONSIDERABLE MORE MEN. On account of increased business, the Anacortes Glass Company is installing new machinery to more than double the capacity of its plant this week. In addition to having a contract for the manuafacture of 32 carloads of "Appleju" and "Loju" bottles tor the Northwest Fruit Products Company of Salem and Olympia, the local plant this week obtain an order for making 100,000 cases of bottles tor the Fox Bottling Works of Seattle. To handle its increased business the glass factory this week is installing four bottle making machines ordered some time ago from the east. One machine is already installed and the others will he ready for operation in a few days. The machines will enable the factory to turn out bottles by machinery instead of by blowers and greatly increase the output. In addition to this equipment, two shops of blowers have been ordered from the east. Each shop will employ five bottle-makers besides the number of men needed to test, pack and ship the extra output. The consumption of soft drinks in the northwestern states through the dry regime has taxed the capacity of the few glass factories on the Pacific coast and the Anacortes plant is getting its share of orders. The local plant has enough contracts signed up and in prospects to insure a good run at its full capacity for a number of years. |
