GLASS FACTORY
REQUIRES HELP
MANAGEMENT PLACE CONDITION
OF CONCERN BEFORE CHAMBER
OF COMMERCE AND ASKS
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM
BUSINESS MEN OF CITY.
Tuesday Messrs. Chamberlain and Jensen, of the Anacortes Glass Company, asked for a hearing before the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce in reference to the affairs of the company, and this hearing was had at a special meeting of the council Tuesday evening. In short, the company asked financial assistance to rebuild the big furnace at the plant. Last summer the old furnace gave away, and rebuilding became necessary. The contract for this work was let and the brick and necessary material was shipped to the city. The contractor now wants to know where his money is to come from, and threatens to remove the material and bring suit against the company. And the company needs the furnace to carry on its business and increase its payroll to some $4,000 per week. It would require $20,000 to rebuild the furnace. This was the amount required from Anacortes.
The matter was finally referred to a special committee, to be appointed the next day. The committee is now at work on the proposition. Its instructions were to investigate and report with recommendation.
