Renewed Activity in Glass Works.
One of the window-glass furnaces at Swindell Brothers' glass works, South Baltimore, started up yesterday. About sixty men were put to work. In a few days the firm expects to open another furnace, which will employ about the same number of men. The flint-glass furnace will not start at present.
King & Brother's works, Leadenhall and Moale streets, started last week and about forty men were given employment. The Baltimore Glass Manufacturing Company's works at Westport are expected to resume operations in a week or so.
The big factories at New Kensington and at Jeanette, Pa., will open December 28 and 26 respectively, and a number of Baltimore glass-blowers have gone to these factories to secure work. These works run night and day and from Monday morning to Saturday night, employing two sets of hands.
