Kimble Glass Head to
Attend Stanford U.
Edward P. Spence, Muncie plant manager for Kimble Glass Co., an Owens-Illinois subsidiary, will leave on June 12 to attend an eight-week graduate course in "Executive Development" at Stanford University in California. He will return Sept. 3.
Mr. Spence, along with Earle G. Ingels, plant manager of Owens-Illinois' Oakland, Calif., plant, are the first O-I men to participate in this Stanford program.
The course is open only to outstanding men in the business field and enrollment in the school honors both the man and the organization for which he works. Fifty-eight men will attend the session.
The course at Stanford includes managerial accounting, personal development, statistical controls and forecasting, management of distribution, personal relations, financial management and top management.

Mr. Spence became plant manager here in April, 1954.
He joined Owens-Illinois in 1933 at Vineland, N.J., and advanced through the positions of clerk, time study man, industrial engineer and assistant plant service manager. He went to Warsaw as plant manager in 1947 and then to the Kimble plant in Toledo, O. in February of 1953 as budget supervisor.
In May, 1953, he became plant manager of the Sayreville, N.J plant and remained there until his appointment here in 1954.
Mr. Spence is a graduate of the Wharton Evening School of the University of Pennsylvania. He was graduated in 1940 with honors in Industrial Engineering and Accounting.
He is married and is 41 years old. He and his wife, Alice, reside at 606 Waid Ave.
