Service awards, were made to 51 employes of Kimble Glass Co., subsidiary of Owens-Illinois Glass Co., at the annual award banquet Tuesday night in the ballroom of the Hotel Roberts. More than 150 persons attended, making this the largest award banquet the Muncie plant has held.
Harold W. Mayfield, Toledo assistant public relations director of the parent company, spoke on Living in Harmony.” He declared that America has been created by harmonious blending of persons from all over the world.
"EACH OF" you awardees, he said, "as senior members of the Muncie plant, has a great responsibility and opportunity to help others learn the art of living in harmony."
John E. Bauer, plant manager, and S. A. Kenworthy, vice president and general factory manager of Kimble’s, presented the awards. Two men, Austin Collins and Cecil Brown, became members of the Pioneer Group, persons with 25 or more years of service. They received gold watches and gold service pins. Other employes received service pins.
E. O. LANGAS, plant personnel director, was toastmaster. Walter W. Wood of personnel made the closing remarks. Receptionists were Carrie Antonini, Ondoise Austin, Rose Ann Browning, Althea Coffman, Donna Davidson, Laverne Oliver, Gladys Silence and Dorothy Wilson, all of the Muncie plant.
Kimble officials present included E. B. Dennis Jr., vice president and sales manager; K. M. Henry, vice president and chief engineer; E. P. Lockart, sales manager, Insulux Division, and D. E. Oren, administrative assistant to general factories manager. Carl Megowen, president of Owens-Illinois and Chairman of the board of Kimble Glass, had been asked to address the group but was detained in Virginia and was unable to attend.
Invocation was given by Earl Brown. The Templairs quartet sang. Messages were read from the Toledo offices.
