of Heritage

Carl R. Megowen, president of Owens-Illinois Glass Company and president of Kimble Glass Company who addressed the annual service award dinner of the Muncie plant of Kimble Glass Wednesday night when 29 employes received service pins, "The annual service award ceremony is being conducted under the theme of Our American Heritage."

"To each of us,” he said, our American heritage would mean something different but one of our proudest heritages is the fact that this country has been able to absorb people from all parts of the world and turn their differences into assets."

The speaker said, "While we must all derive great pleasure and pride from a contemplation of our great American heritage, we must, of course, also recognize that at the present time the preservation of this heritage should be of great concern to us all.

"If we are to pass on to our children and their children the kind of a heritage that has been passed on to us we must solve some mighty big problems," Megowen said.

"A strong United States has no nation to fear and can take a very active part in solving the problems of the rest of the world, but a weak United States will be prey of all nations," the speaker said.

Two of the awardees, Ralph Marks and Joe Sheridan, joined the company's Kimble Pioneer Group at the banquet by attaining 25 years of service. William Brumback was awarded a pin for 50 years of service. Other awards were for 40, 35, 30 and 10 years service.

The banquet was held at the Hotel Roberts.
