DROWNING OF A BOY.

Fifteen-Year-Old Edward McNeilly

Breaks Through the Ice on Lake

Archer.

After dragging the bed of Lake Archer for twenty hours the body of Edward McNeilly, a 15-year-old boy employed at the Valverde Glass works, was finally discovered about fifty feet from where he probably fell in. The remains were taken to the coroner’s office and laid out. The face was much swollen, and about the closed eyes and tightly closed lips an expression of pain was noticeable.

On Monday morning McNeilly left his home at the usual hour and started for the glass works, where he was employed. His non-appearance did not create any alarm, but a message was sent to his mother, asking why he did not come to work as usual. It was then learned he was missing. At first it was thought he had ran away, but that theory was dissipated when it was learned that he had not drawn his wages, and half an hour later a bat known to be his was found on the little bridge which crosses Lake Archer near the extreme end.

The probabilities are that the boy was tempted to take a slide on the ice and fell through into the water. The authorities were notified and they at once went to work dragging the lake, keeping it up nearly all night long and finally meeting with success.
