WALKED OUT.

Girls Dissatisfied With Their Pay

For Making Toy Marbles.

Twenty girls, employed in A. L. Dyke's marble works on West Center st., quit work at 2 o'clock this after noon.

The Misses Mary Siegberth, Lottie Harding, Kate Gast, Elizabeth Flighter and May Miller, a delegation from the "strikers," called at the DEMOCRAT office after the walkout. Said one of them:

"We girls have been working for four cents a board. Now a board holds 1,000 marbles and the girls who had worked there for a long time can make from 25 cents to 35 cents a day. Those who are new can only make about four of the boards a day amounting to 16 cents. At 1 o'clock we asked Mr. Dyke to raise our wages to 5 cents a board. He said he couldn't do it as he was losing money as it was. He at once cut us down to 3-1/2 cents a board, and every one of us quit work right then and there."

The callers say they will not return to work until they get five cents a thousand. Fifteen of the girls were employed in the rolling department, where the raise was asked, and five girls in the finishing department walked out through sympathy. One girl remained at work.
