Active preparations are being made towards starting a new and desirable industry in town, that of a glass manufactory, to be known as the Oakman Manufacturing company.

S. J. Oakman of South Boston, a mem­ber of the firm, has had an active experience in the business of 30 years. R. A. Burget of this town and New York capitalists are of the firm. The business is to be located to the building formerly used in the manufacture of bricks, and situated a convenient distance from the railroad station. The building is being fitted up to accommodate the new industry, and an addition 50x60 feet will be built. Blown and pressed glass demijohns, carboys, electrical insulators, etc. It will be two months before the work of manufacturing the above articles can be commenced. A force of nearly 50 hands will be employed to start with, and it is expected the force will be doubled later. Cheshire sand will be used, and the fuel is to be oil and wood. Girls will be employed in some of the departments. The officers of the newly organized company are: President, Wingate S. Sargent of Boston, secretary, James R. Powers, Boston; treasurer, William Baldwin, Pittsfield; superintendent, Samuel Oakman, Boston. Cheshire people are pleased at the prospect of such an Indus­try coming here.
