A POLICY OF SILENCE

George C. Benham, Deposed Manager

of Muncie Garment Company

Persistantly Refuses to Talk.

Charged With Embezzlement He

Says That What He Has to Say

Will Be Said Later.

Muncie, Ind., April 7. — George C. Benham, the deposed manager of the Muncie Garment company, alleged by the officers to have embezzled a large sum of money belonging to the concern, was formally charged with grand larceny and obtaining money under false pretenses. The complaint was filed by J. H. Smith, president of the Muncie Garment company. Owing to the uncertainty of the company as to the amount of money alleged to have been taken by Benham, the accounts being tangled, his bond was placed at $2,500, which was furnished by Ralph G. Hemingray, the glass manufacturer. Mr. Benham’s close friend.

As soon as the bond was filed Benham left the police station, accompanied by his friends, among them two well-known business men. He continues to adhere to his policy of silence. "Anything I have to say will be said later," said he, and would not respond to an interview.
