GLASS FACTORY
TO START WORK
FIRST OF APRIL
Actual production at the newly completed initial unit of the California Glass Insulator Company's plant in the Long Beach Inner Harbor industrial district will begin on Monday, April 1, according to an announcement made today by Robert P. Frist, general manager.
Fires were first started in the big furnace on March 21, as published by The Press of that date. The ten days' test has proved the equipment to be equal to the demands to be made upon it and real service will begin next Monday. Operations at this first unit will be confined to the manufacture of pressed ware.
For a starter there will be employed fifty men, all now or to become citizens of Long Beach. Later there will be completed on the big industrial tract, tapped by a spur from the Pacific Electric system's San Pedro-Long Beach line, two more units for the manufacture of other varieties of glass and by the end of this year the number of employes will be more than doubled, with a proportionate increase in the payroll funds to be distributed in Long Beach.
