Meetings of Glass Manufacturers,

The Crockery and Glass Journal says: "The annual meeting of the National Association of Flint and Lime Glass Manufacturers, which took place at Cape May week before last, was largely attended. Several topics of interest were discussed, but no resolutions of importance were adopted.

An election for officers resulted in the choice of T. S. Shirley, of New Medford, for president; Thos. Evans, of Pittsburg, vice president; and J. J. Gill, of Steubenville, O., secretary. The banquet which followed was enjoyed gastronomically and socially, and the natural resources of Cape May as a seaside resort were appreciated.

WESTERN FLINT BOTTLE ASSOCIATION.

THE Western Flint Bottle Association met at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Chicago, on Thursday, June 11. The following firms were represented: Great Western Glass Works, St. Louis Glass Works (J. K. Cummings), and Illinois Glass Works (W. Eliot Smith), all of St. Louis; Kearns, Gorsuch & Co., Zanesville, Ohio; Hemingray Glass Co., Covington, Kentucky; Ottawa Flint Bottle Co., Ottawa, Illinois; Bellaire Bottle Co., Bellaire, Ohio; and Tibby Bros., W. H. Hamilton & Co., J. T. & A. Hamilton, Thomas Wightman & Co., and Agnew & Co., all of Pittsburgh. Mr. Joseph Hamilton presided, and W. Eliot Smith was secretary. After going so far it was thought by several members that some definite action should be taken on the price list, but in view of the fact that the dull season impended, and that the labor troubles might easily be fanned into renewed activity by such action, it was decided to postpone further consideration of the matter until the next meeting. Beyond merely routine matters little more was considered at the meeting. The members generally thought that the indications favored a good fall trade, though it has been rather quiet so far.

FLINT GLASS WORKERS' CONVENTION.

The Flint (tableware) workers will meet in annual convention at Philadelphia in July, and it is said that strenuous efforts will be made to re-enact the rule of having a six weeks’ compulsory suspension every summer, which regulation was rescinded last year. The Western workers are especially anxious to have this done, but whether the project fails or not, it will, of course, have no effect on this year's operations. It is also proposed to unite the American Flint Glass Workers' Union, the Window Glass Workers' Association, and the Hollow-ware Blowers' League into one powerful organization, something akin to the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers. No doubt they would make quite a formidable combination, but the circumstances affecting methods and hours of labor, wages and the modes of paying them, together with the products manufactured, are so distinct and different each from the others that it would be very difficult to organize them into a harmonious and homogeneous body."
