FIRE ALARM TELEGRAPH.
Since the last report, the lines of the Fire Alarm Telegraph were entirely rebuilt and the circuits shortened by making 12 Signal and 5 Alarm Circuits. The Signal System will be in excellent shape as soon as the remaining crank boxes can be replaced with automatic boxes, which work is rapidly going forward. The old talking instruments were taken out and replaced with telephones, worked on six circuits, without cost to the city, thanks to the City and Suburban Telegraph Association, through the exertions of Mr. E. C. Armstrong, Superintendent, and W. H. Eckert, General Manager. The telephones have proved of great convenience in the business of the Department, and a valuable adjunct to the Signal System, having connection with all the telephones in the city through the various telephone exchanges.
