WILL RESUME MONDAY EVANS GLASS HOUSE WILL Begin Operations — Grand Opera House Nearing Completion — Improvement Notes. One more glass scale has been signed. In Pittsburg Thursday night the manufacturers of lamp chimneys and the committee representing the workmen reached an agreement. All houses in this branch of the glass trade will be in operation within a few days. The Evans Co., the only factory in Marion in this branch, will begin operations Monday. One furnace will be started, giving employment to 300 people. The Monday following another furnace will be added and about 470 employes will be on the pay roll. From present indications the season will be a prosperous one with the Evans Co. The starting of this factory means much for South Marion. Nearly all the Evans workmen reside in the southern part of the city. The plant has been closed twelve weeks and during the vacation many improvements have been made. The water supply, which until this season has been inadequate, has been greatly enlarged. For protection against fire the supply of water is inexhaustive, and the facilities are of the best, Supt. Schnelbach has looked after the comfort of his employes in many ways, and the improvements have been to their interests as well as the company's. There is probably no better arranged or more commodious glass manufactory in the country than the Thomas Evans.
