AND AT FAIRMOUNT, TOO. Boys at the Dillon and King City Factories on a Strike. The old Dillon and King City glass factories, both owned and operated by Wilson & McCulloch, are undergoing the trying ordeal of a strike, the carrying in boys demanding a raise of a dollar a week. and absolutely refuse to work again until their demands are acceded to. A wagon load of boys from the Marion factory, who are also on a strike, came here yesterday and persuaded the Fairmount lads to join them, which they did about 4 o'clock. The King City boys went out about 8 o'clock last night, but, with the assistance of the apprentices, who were put to work carrying in, the boys who did not see fit to strike and a number of men. who were put to work, both factories were able to run all night and were still at work today. It is estimated that about fifty boys are at leisure. Martin Burk, manager of the factories, was seen last night, and said that the demands of the juvenile strikers will not be considered, as they are paying as much as they do at any factory in the country. The boys are determined, however, and seem to be well organized. |
