OVER SEVEN HUNDRED EMPLOYES FIND WORK WITH WILSON & McCULLOCH Firm Expects a Heavy Fruit Crop This Year and are Preparing for It — All Departments Rushed. The fruit jar manufacturing firm of Wilson & McCulloch of this city evidently is anticipating one of the best fruit seasons during the present year that it ever has, as it is exercising every effort possible to increase the capacity of its factories in this city, Converse and Fairmount. At the present time but one of the Fairmount plants — the old Dillon factory — is an operation. Six blowing machines are in use and about one hundred employes are working in and about the factory. The Converse factory has the same capacity. The Marion factory has seven machines in operation and one hundred and ten people employed in it. Mr. Wilson states that the other Fairmount plant — the old King City factory — will be in operation within the next three weeks. It will be equipped for a capacity of equal to the Marion industry. One additional machine will also be placed in the other Fairmount and Converse factories, and thus the four plants will be equal. The “white liner” and stamping factories operated in connection with the local plant, are being worked to their fullest capacities, and in the “liner” plant four more pressing machines were placed Monday, thereby giving employment to twenty four additional employes. One hundred and thirty-six people are now employed in this plant and one hundred and fifty in the stamping works. The total number of employees in the six factories, as soon as the other Fairmount plant is started will number seven hundred and sixteen. |
