Monument to a

Telegraph Line

 

On telegraph road near Mount Vernon the home of George Washington about twenty miles south of Washington, D. C., stands this steel marker a monument to the first telegraph line in the world. This line was a part of the Washington-New Orleans Telegraph Company and was built from Washington to Petersburg in 1847—Submitted by Ray Blain.
