Kinston Girl Saved Hand

By Her Prompt Action

Derry, May 10. — What might have been a serious injury to the right hand of Ida Moore, a young lady employed at the plant of the Pittsburg High Voltage Insulator Company, was obviated by the quick wit of Miss Moore, yesterday, who reversed the power of the insulator press as it was about to crush it.

The young lady was operating one of the presses which form the insulators by forcing a plunger into a mass of clay, giving the insulator form. The press works up and down automatically. While the young lady was operating the press her right hand happened to get under the descending plunger.

Just in the nick of time the power was reversed, and the hand was saved, although it was painfully bruised, the flesh having been broken both in the palm of the hand and on the back. Dr. B. Haughwout dressed the injured hand, and took the young lady to her home near Kingston in his auto.
