THE Belgian glassblowers who have secured the places of the old force at Hemingray’s Glass-works by working under rates, are here and at work, and as may be expected, their presence is not particularly agreeable to those whom they have thrown out of employment. A night or two ago some of the workers at the glass works were astonished to behold a man strung up by the neck to one of the telegraph poles in the vicinity of the works. Some one hastened to cut the rope, and the stuffed effigy, for such it proved to be, was let down on its back was a placard with the significant words, "I am a Belgian — send my body home." It is not known who hung up the effigy. Suspicion of course has fallen on some of the discharged men, but those who know seem to be able to keep the secret, and the hearty dislike which the local workmen have for the foreigners is too general to let the prank be placed to the account of any one in particular.
