NATURAL GAS — Captain Ford, who owns two-thirds of the McGugin gas well, was approached the other day upon the subject of consolidating natural gas companies of Pittsburgh and vicinity. He said: "No such overtures have been made to me, but [ believe it would be a grand benefit for Pittsburgh if such a combination was formed. The city could easily afford to issue [dollar:$10,000,000] worth of bonds for putting down pipes, as I believe the population would increase 33 percent, in five years, and it would be a curiosity to see a wagon hauling away ashes. I use the gas in my own house for lighting, heating and cooking, and find not trouble about its safety. Only a few days ago Mr. Hemmingray [sic] Hemingray, a large glass manufacturer of Cincinnati, was here looking after a location for his works. He told me then that he would have to use the natural gas or else go out of the business. I believe the consolidation you speak of would be an excellent thing, but I know nothing of it yet."
