American Pottery Company.—A bill passed both branches of the general assembly of Illinois, and has been approved by the Governor, to charter a company with the above name, for the purpose of carrying on in this State, the manufacture of a ware very similar to what is known as China ware. A specimen of this ware was exhibited to the Legislature, by Mr. Cummings, the member who introduced the bill, and who showed that there could be manufactured out of Illinois clay, a table ware that could be glazed, polished and made as durable and beautiful as any foreign importation. The company are allowed to increase their capital to [dollar: $1,000,000]. It is the intention of the company to erect, during the coming summer, extensive buildings at some accessible place in southern Illinois, near the clay region, where they propose manufacturing “American Chinaware” sufficient to supply all the contiguous States. They expect to produce a finer article that any foreign importation, and also to sell at a greatly reduced price.
