MUNCIE, IND.

By Fred E. West

Local Union No. 50 wishes to announce officers for 1935-1936: President, Virgil Allis; Vice President, Ray West; Secretary and Treasurer, Wm. Jenkins; Corresponding Secretary and Flint Correspondent, Fred West; Inspector, Ray Stanley; Representatives to Trades Council, Ray West, Harry Benbow, Robert Miller, Curtis Langdon and Vincent Summers.

The State Labor Convention was held in Muncie September 11, 12, 13. Official reports have not been made to the local, but I might write about the action concerning Governor Paul V. McNut sending National Guards to Terre Haute in such a hurry. Protests have been made to the governor by a number of locals and also by the State Convention. For the information of our distant members who are not informed as to the matter, the strike that was on at Terre Haute continued over a period of about four months. Strike breakers were sent to Terre Haute and a general strike was called. Our governor sent a whole army down there and put Terre Haute under martial law before labor had a chance to defend itself. Organized labor of Indiana does not approve of paying National Guards to protect strike breakers.

At this time Local Union No. 50 wishes to thank Ralph Shea, our past corresponding secretary, who has held that position and did well since Local Union No. 50 was organized. Due to the fact that Brother Shea has other interests this year, we granted him a furlough and we wish him the best of health and prosperity.
