Council meeting: Hemingray glass company's night-watchman was given police power. Petitions received from citizens refusing to pay for street improvements; referred to committee on law and improvements. Action on the resignation of Alex. Davezac was deferred for one week. The street commissioner and superintendent of public works were instructed to limit their expenses to $1000 and $500 per month. Resolved to purchase the lot north of jail and erect a work-house on the Greenup-st. end; price, $3500. The president was instructed to make the purchase and the building referred to the committee on public buildings. A. Montgomery was awarded the contract for the city coal. Fire department, city police and city officals' salaries were allowed.
