MUNCIE, IND.

By Fred E. West

I am very glad to report that Owens-Illinois Glass Co. plant No. 26 is back in operation with two insulator shops, one hand shop on experimental work and two brick shops. Everybody working maximum hours.

The only trouble I can report is that Mr. Zimmerman and his assistants will not quit improving the appearance and workmanship on the glass blocks. In overhearing a conversation of a visitor in the plant who was looking over our display of blocks, and as he looked at some of the first that were made, and then some of the latter, he said, "Who would have thunk it?" I do not think this remark over-rated the progress in this new unit, as every employe, as well as the officials, believe in their product as the coming if not one of the outstanding improvements of 1936.

Although we have been in production for about six months, we anticipate a large sale in the spring. Here's hoping we will need more tanks.

Strange as it may seem, our former mould maker, Miller, had some geese and a young bull. One day one of the geese got the bull by the tail and the bull ran all around the barn lot with the goose hanging on his tail until, as he went around the corner of the barn he dashed the goose against the barn, "cold cooking the goose." Since that every time the bull looks up and sees a goose he starts running and jumping fences. Believe it or not, this is a case of Bull Run.

Virgil Alles, Peter Slane, Ralph Shea and the writer, members of Local Union No. 50, wish to congratulate "Doc" Proctor of San Francisco on getting in with such a fine looking bunch of fellows. Well, "Doc," Local Union No. 50 had lost track of you, but since we have found you, please write, because you're not as toug'h as you used to be, or send us the key to the Golden Gate. If members of Local Union No. 66 don't understand the tough part of it I'll let you in on a secret. "Doc" used to be the bully up here.
