Minot Holmes to Retire at
American Structural Products
Retiring after more than 47 years’ service is Minot K. Homes, 65, manager of Insulator Sales for Owens-Illinois Glass Co. He will leave the American Structural Products Division Thursday, May 1, with the benefits of the company’s service retirement program.
HOLMES CAME to Muncie and the glass industry on his 18th birthday in 1904, from Newton, Mass. He started as an apprentice in the mold shop and rose to a top position in the glass insulator field.
He designed the basic elements of the insulator machine when the former Hemingray Glass Co. converted from hand to automatic operation in 1919. He also contributed to the plant’s production mechanization.
Holmes took part in early glass block experiments and advanced several ideas which helped create the first hermetically sealed block to be marketed in the United States.
MR. AND MRS. HOLMES will have been married 40 years in July. They live at 312 W. North St. They have a son, Eliot, and a daughter, Mrs. Robert Casey. Mr. Holmes plans to help his son operate an appliance business in Muncie.
Plant Manager John E. Bauer noted that "Minot’s contributions throughout the years have been invaluable to the progress of the Muncie plant."
Holmes will start his retirement with a trip to his cottage near Madison, Wis. He looks forward to photography — he develops and reprints his own pictures — horse racing and golf.
